HBO, after the revolution - Los Angeles Times

Sun, 20 Apr 2008 14:44:57 PDT
According to that great fact checking news paper, the LA Times, "George Washington (David Morse) so quickly tired of the infighting among his Cabinet and vagaries of public opinion that he stepped down from the presidency after a single term."What paper full of morons. Single term? Idiots.

A poll conundrum

Sun, 20 Apr 2008 21:03:12 PDT
By Libby I've never given much weight to polling in trying to predict long term trends. Polls by their nature take a snapshot of a moment in time and by the time they're published some new factor has likely as not already swayed public opinion in another direction. But still, the polling in PA has puzzled me because it seems so far removed from the reality on the ground. I mean consider this recent rally for Obama in Philly. By all accounts at least 35,000 people showed up and their enthusiasm

The Eve of the Pennsylvania Democratic Primary

Sun, 20 Apr 2008 20:05:36 PDT
The scramble for the prize of Pennsylvania's delegates to the Democratic National Convention culminates tomorrow as Democrats in the state head for the polls. Two major trends bear watching. One, a new national poll shows that for the first time in many months Hillary Clinton has reclaimed the lead over Barack Obama among Democratic voters. On the other hand, another poll shows Obama maintaining his lead, albeit much smaller than just a week ago. Two, polls in Pennsylvania seem to indicate th

Albeton Live’s Non-Existent "Secret" Vocoder; No One Needs a Vocoder

Sun, 20 Apr 2008 19:46:45 PDT
I haven’t necessarily been following Live’s forums lately, but apparently one of the hot-button issues lately was a rumored "secret" vocoder in a future build of Ableton Live. The myth goes something like this: a camera crew doing a behind-the-scenes look at Ableton’s Berlin office accidentally captures a brief moment in which an unreleased vocoder appears in the bottom part of the screen. I’ve been hearing buzz about this for weeks, but Garret Collins is the latest. (Sorry, Gar, but there’s th

Is Dislocating Technology a Change Agent?

Sat, 19 Apr 2008 23:45:06 PDT
Until recently Hans Lodder thought that dislocating technology was something used in wars. But Gartner uses the term for IT technology that enables a completely different and better approach for business processes. If you combine the Gartner technology examples with the MacKinsey business trends for 2008 then it really takes off!

Oil up! Freak out! Dow up? Shut up!

Fri, 18 Apr 2008 12:50:34 PDT
Oil up! Freak out! Dow up? Shut up! The state-run media in Canada (and the citizen-owned media who do their best to compete with them) all lament, daily (with intra-day lament updates, all day long), the price of a barrel of oil, and the resulting price of gas. (Of course they don’t have the foggiest clue what they’re talking about, but they pretend they do.) Even as I was writing this, the state-owned CBC did a story about the latest rise in gas prices. Apparently it’s getting h

Cons: RCMP Raid Was a 'Publicity Stunt'

Wed, 16 Apr 2008 13:10:43 PDT
Pass the tissues. Oh how I weep for those poor victims of the RCMP raid of the Cons' headquarters. Not. The tories are scrambling to paint themselves as being oppressed after yesterday's raid (which continues today). The problem is that they appointed the two Elections Canada officials they're now suing and that they applaud the RCMP (even protecting Zaccardelli to the bitter end) except when they're the targets of a legally-sanctioned warrant. And now, they're also trying to implicate the Li
